Face Surgery

Eyelid surgery aims to address excess skin or puffiness of the upper or lower eyelids for a more rested appearance.

## What is Eyelid Surgery?

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) addresses excess skin, and sometimes fat, of the upper or lower eyelids. Some people consider it because loose upper-lid skin or lower-lid puffiness can give a tired appearance, and occasionally excess upper-lid skin can affect the field of vision.

Your consultant surgeon will assess the eyelids and surrounding areas and explain what surgery may realistically achieve.

## What the Journey May Involve

Every patient is different; the steps below give a general sense of what care can involve. Your surgeon will explain what is right for you.

1. ### Consultation

An assessment of the eyelids, surrounding tissues and eye health, alongside a discussion of your goals.

2. ### Planning

We take time to understand your goals, review your medical history and agree an approach tailored to you.

3. ### Procedure

Eyelid surgery may be performed under local or general anaesthetic depending on the case; your surgeon will advise.

4. ### Recovery

You are supported closely afterwards, with clear guidance and direct access to your surgical team.

5. ### Follow-up

Follow-up appointments allow us to review your progress and answer any questions as you heal.

## Recovery & Aftercare

Recovery varies. Bruising and swelling around the eyes are common in the first week or two and settle gradually. Clear aftercare guidance is provided. Please contact a qualified clinician if you have concerns during recovery.

## Risks & Safety

Eyelid surgery can be associated with risks such as bleeding, infection, dryness or irritation of the eyes, asymmetry, changes in eyelid position and scarring. Your surgeon will explain these fully beforehand.

- All surgery carries some risk; your surgeon will explain these in full so you can give informed consent
- Care is provided by surgeons on the GMC Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery
- Procedures take place in CQC-registered facilities with clear safety protocols
- If you have any concerns, speak to a qualified clinician before proceeding

## People Also Asked

### Will eyelid surgery leave visible scars?

Incisions are usually placed in the natural creases of the eyelids to help conceal scarring. Your surgeon will explain the expected result for you.

### How long does recovery take?

Many people feel presentable within one to two weeks, though bruising varies. Follow your surgeon’s individual guidance.

### Can it improve my vision?

In some cases where excess upper-lid skin affects the field of vision it may help, but this must be properly assessed by a qualified clinician.

### Will I look very different?

The aim is a rested, natural appearance rather than a dramatic change. Your surgeon will discuss realistic expectations.
