# Liposuction Scars

Small incisions and healing

Why liposuction leaves only very small scars, where the access incisions are placed, and how they typically heal.

## Where the scars are

Liposuction is carried out through very small access incisions – usually only a few millimetres long – through which a thin tube (cannula) is passed. Your surgeon places these in discreet spots, often within natural creases, and only a few are needed.

## How they heal

Because the incisions are so small, they usually heal to tiny, barely noticeable marks. They may look pink at first and fade over the following months.

## Caring for them

Sun protection and following your surgical team’s guidance, including any compression garment, support healing.

## Realistic expectations

Liposuction scars are usually minimal, but any incision leaves a permanent mark. Scarring is individual, so a personal assessment is the only way to know what to expect for you.
