# Tummy Tuck Scars

## Where the scars are

A tummy tuck scar usually runs horizontally across the lower abdomen, between the hips, positioned low so it can sit within underwear or a bikini line. A full tummy tuck also leaves a small scar around the navel.

## How they heal

The scar is often raised and pink for the first weeks to months, then typically fades and flattens over roughly 12 to 18 months. How it settles depends on the technique, your skin and your aftercare.

## Caring for them

Sun protection, silicone once healed, and following your surgical team’s guidance on compression garments and activity all help the scar settle. Avoid tension across the healing wound.

## Realistic expectations

The scar is permanent, but it is placed to be as discreet as possible. Scarring is individual, so a personal assessment is the only way to know what to expect for you.
