Why liposuction leaves only very small scars, where the access incisions are placed, and how they typically heal.
Where the scars are
Liposuction is carried out through very small access incisions - usually only a few millimetres long - through which a thin tube (cannula) is passed. Your surgeon places these in discreet spots, often within natural creases, and only a few are needed.
How they heal
Because the incisions are so small, they usually heal to tiny, barely noticeable marks. They may look pink at first and fade over the following months.
Caring for them
Sun protection and following your surgical team’s guidance, including any compression garment, support healing.
Realistic expectations
Liposuction scars are usually minimal, but any incision leaves a permanent mark. Scarring is individual, so a personal assessment is the only way to know what to expect for you.
