What is Ear Surgery?
Ear surgery, or otoplasty, aims to reshape or reposition the ears, most commonly to set prominent ears closer to the head. It may be considered by adults and, in some cases, older children. The procedure is tailored to the individual shape of the ears.
Your consultant surgeon will examine the ears and discuss the approach and realistic outcomes.

Ear surgery may be considered by people in good general health who are self-conscious about prominent or asymmetrical ears and have realistic expectations. For children, ear cartilage typically needs to be sufficiently developed; a qualified clinician will advise.

Recovery varies. A head dressing or supportive band is often worn for a period, and some swelling and discomfort are normal early on. Clear aftercare guidance is provided. Speak to a qualified clinician if anything concerns you while healing.
Risks & Safety
Ear surgery can be associated with risks such as bleeding, infection, asymmetry, changes in sensation, and the possibility that the ears move over time. Your surgeon will explain these in full before you decide.
